If you are here then the probability that you are conservative in thought is high. What that means is that you are more likely to be aware of what is happening with Health Care Reform than not. But what you may not realize is that for all those people out there that are not like you they probably don’t understand why the president’s plan to nationalize our health care is so bad. In fact, every day they are hearing just how good it is.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to educate everyone you come in contact with. Casual conversation is a powerful tool when used correctly. Just a couple of hard facts to get your friends and family thinking is all it really takes. Talk to your doctors when you can, continue to write to your elected officials as their stand of most of them indicates they are not thinking in the best interest of us, mention it in the line at the grocery store. Help people to know what the main stream media is not reporting.
“And the ever-increasing cost of Medicare and Medicaid are among the main drivers of enormous budget deficits that are threatening our economic future.” (Pres. Obama in a letter sent by the President to Senators Ted Kennedy and Max Baucus, June 2, 2009)
And yet, even though the president admits that Medicare and Medicaid are threatening our economic future, nothing is being done to fix those government run programs. In fact, they are the very programs that congress seeks to use as a health care reform platform!
Here a just a few facts that you can share.
Nationalized health care has never contained cost. It has led to:
•Out of control hikes in tax rates
•Long waits for services
•Rationed and prioritized services
•Decline in innovation
•Lack of alternative options
The following data reflecting the “UNINSURED” is from the National Center for Policy Analysis:
•17 million people make over $50,000/year.
They can afford some basic health insurance but choose not to.
•18 million, the 18-34 year old ‘invincibles’.
They have health care options but are willing to risk being uninsured because they are generally in good health and would rather use their money in other ways.
•14 million are eligible but not enrolled in existing government programs.
They become enrolled when they present to the health care system by social workers.
•12 million are illegal immigrants.
•That leaves 8 million truly uninsured.
But even this group includes those between jobs who choose not to pay their COBRA premiums. Others that distrust health care and choose not to participate. And those who belong to tribes or cultures that have their own health care providers. The important thing to keep in mind is that even these individuals are not denied when they present for care. By law, hospitals must provide care regardless of the patient’s ability to pay (charity care) and there are many free clinics and community health centers with sliding scale fees already in existence.
There are two reasons the government cites as the justification of why they need to take control of our
health care system.
1.THE COST
It is important to note that our government currently controls almost half of all of America’s health care spending through Medicare, Medicaid, and government employee benefits. Few rational people would argue that the nation’s healthcare costs have come down since government became involved.
2.THE UNINSURED
Government policy makers frequently tell us that there are 45-50 million Americans who are uninsured. It is important to know the composition of this population.
Please join in the effort to stop this reform. Our current health care system took 80 years to get this way. It can’t effectively be reformed in just a couple of months. It does need help, but the best first step would be to get government out of health care. Based on their performance with Medicare and Medicaid the government needs to be fired from their position and we need a consumer centered system that gives us all more choices within a free market which will result in better health care.
